Chiao Chun Lin's "Move": A Homocentric Design Masterpiece

Residential Space Reimagined with Curves and Light

In the heart of Taoyuan, Taiwan, Chiao Chun Lin's residential project "Move" redefines living spaces with a focus on flow, light, and family safety. This award-winning design showcases a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality.

At the core of "Move" lies the consideration for children's living spaces. The JN design team, led by Chiao Chun Lin, has meticulously crafted a home that encourages movement, offers ample study and recreational areas, and caters to the owner's passion for cinema. The result is a home theater ambiance that elevates everyday living to an art form. This design's strength lies in its ability to create a soft spatial tone through the use of a white-dominated color palette, accented with black, gray, and dark wooden textures. The design's unique curvature not only mitigates the harshness of angular spaces but also serves as a safety feature for the children at play.

Chiao Chun Lin's team faced the challenge of integrating an overhead projector into a space with exposed pipes and a low ceiling. Their solution was a recessed projector screen storage compartment, seamlessly incorporated into the living room's design. This technical ingenuity ensures that the entertainment system complements the space without compromising on style or functionality. The "Move" project spans 132.232 square meters, a testament to the team's ability to transform a substantial area into an intimate and inviting home.

The design's interaction with its inhabitants is thoughtful and intentional. The curved ceiling cleverly conceals unsightly pipes, while the overhanging wall cabinets with curved edges minimize the risk of accidents, ensuring a safe environment for the family. These elements not only provide peace of mind but also contribute to the space's warmth and attention to detail.

Completed in November 2022, "Move" is a product of extensive research into creating a space that feels both modern and inviting. The use of Italian paint on the TV wall and interior walls speaks to the design's commitment to durability and ease of maintenance. The choice to leave the entrance wall unadorned creates a striking impression of simplicity and openness, inviting residents and guests into the home.

Chiao Chun Lin's design philosophy is evident in the way "Move" integrates LED and natural lighting to reduce electricity consumption, while enhancing the space's modern and understated tone. The strategic use of lighting creates a depth of field effect that is both functional and atmospheric, contributing to the project's eco-friendly credentials.

The "Move" design by Chiao Chun Lin has been recognized with a Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2024, a distinction that celebrates the project's creative ingenuity and contribution to enhancing quality of life. Photographer Yu-Chiao Lee captures the essence of "Move" in a series of images that highlight the design's interplay of light, texture, and form. This project stands as a benchmark in residential design, where every detail is crafted with the homeowner's experience in mind.
